Bringing drone into Vietnam as a foreign tourist

One of frequent question that we get asked is:

Q: Hi there. I am planning to come to Vietnam and bring a drone with me. Can you help me to apply for a permit?

A: We only support filming/commercial purpose and not individual/tourism purpose and we don’t know anyone to recommend.
Because currently there’s not yet law/regulations regarding individual foreign tourist.
If you want to know better, you should contact Ministry of Defence https://www.mod.gov.vn/

Address: No 7, Nguyễn Tri Phương street, Ba Đình district, Hanoi city, Vietnam *Tel: +84-69.553215 * Email: info@mod.gov.vn

(If they don’t answer their phone or email, sorry, we don’t know, please come directly to their office)

Q: Can I fly my drone? It’s very light weight.

A: We aren’t the authority, so we aren’t the right people to answer this question. As if you get caught, we can’t be responsible for it. From the authority’s perspective, it’s not about how light weight the item is. It’s about you fly an electronic device that has function to capture images and videos in sky space that you don’t own. You can mostly fly a kite just fine, as it’s not the same as a drone.

Again, we are a filming service, we only can help to apply for a drone permit for filming or commercial purposes, or if you hire a Vietnamese drone operator from us, we can help to apply for a drone permit under his name. Please check out our post here about drone services in Vietnam

For personal or tourism purposes, please contact Ministry of Defence if you want better answers.

Thanks!
